I have finally found the time to complete my portrait of Elizabeth.

It took a really long time for me to get round to painting this piece but in the end it only took me about 18 hours which I’m happy with. I experimented a little with how I add value compared to how I usually layer it in. I’ve also found that I paint a whole lot better if I don’t constantly think about perfection. I’ve heard it said that the best way to approach something is to raise your standards but lower your expectations. What this means is that instead of expecting perfection of my self (which how I normally approach an artwork), I put in my absolute best, taking my time to enjoy the process and truly study the reference.
Below are a few progress shots and of course the final piece.
